-HISTORY OF PROHIBITION-
For many people and places, bellying up to the bar for a cold beer, glass of wine, or martini is about as everyday as getting dressed in the morning and going to work. However, there was a time not too long ago when such an activity was a serious and punishable offense.
It wasn't just that you couldn't drink, but simply that the manufacture and sale of booze was prohibited.
The years of prohibition were from 1920 to 1933 overlapping with the Great Depression, people hadn't exactly stockpiled any booze because it was so readily available. At the beginning drinking did largely decrease, but many of the problems that prohibition were supposed to solve were consequently exacerbated. Organized crime flourished, jobs were lost and this social experiment of the 18th Amendment was deemed a failure. Over 8 decades ago on December 5th 1933, prohibition was finally repealed. Here the red light always stays on! So please enjoy one of our recent craft cocktails or speakeasy originals.
