Description
My wife and I have always enjoyed getting outside. While living in Charlotte, we found ourselves leaving town each weekend with our dog, Luna, in order to find new outdoor places. Finally, we decided to look for a property that we could all enjoy for years to come, even as we planned a career move back towards Winston-Salem. Having grown up in the triad area, we were familiar with Hanging Rock, Sauratown and Pilot Mountain, but, when we began to look at properties, we were amazed to find the picturesque views that were available surrounding these peaks. We spent a wonderful 6 months visiting various places, but we settled on the first property we ever visited, which is now called Luna's Trail.
Luna's Trail is named for our dog. Normally a timid pound pup, Luna's confidence and imagination seem to feed on these trails. Three children later, we still enjoy getting out as a family and watching Luna blossom. We often cannot tell if she actually sees things she appears to be chasing, or if she is making them up.
We have also enjoyed learning about the local food movement here in the Pilot Mountain/Mt. Airy area. Being on a farm, we are learning a lot about food development, and are interested in organic and sustainable techniques. We initially tried our hand at pasture-raised chicken eggs, which we have enjoyed tremendously. For 2015, we plan on expanding into other livestock including pork, cattle, goats and possibly duck. We are also raising organic blueberr
